CLIA - the Cruise Lines International Association 

Container vessel - Carries container gods usually through scheduled liner services

Dry cargo vessel - Carries break bulk cargoes, single or multi-decked

Ferry - Transporting people, cars, etc.

ECA Emission Control Area. Sea area in which stricter controls have been established to minimise airborne emissions from ships.

MoS - Motorways of the Sea. a Priority Project of the Trans-European Network for Transport, aims to promote green, viable, attractive and efficient sea-based transport links integrated in the entire transport chain. Their implementation should help to rebalance the EU transport system.

NECA - Nitrogen Emission Control Area. Sea area in which stricter controls have been established to minimise nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions from ships.

Ro-Ro vessel - “roll on and roll off” with vehicles - generally in two types; the passenger ro-ro and the Cargo ro-ro

SECA - Sulphur Emission Control Area. Sea area in which stricter controls have been established to minimise sulphur oxide (SOx) emissions from ships.

Scrubber - System to clean the exhaust from vessels running on HFO (Heavy Fuel Oil) with higher sulphur content.

Tanker vessel - transport crude oil, chemicals and petroleum, have oil pipelines and vents on deck
